“Punk & Beyond: Legendes van de Lower East Side” Charitatieve Galerij

The MOSCOT Mobileyes Foundation has announced a partnership with national music education nonprofit, Music Will, for Punk & Beyond: Legends of the Lower East Side, an immersive art experience celebrating the musicians that rose to fame on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. With support from legendary music producers Perry Margouleff and Steve Rosenthal, the exhibition will raise funds for the launch and expansion of Music Will’s music programming in the neighborhood’s public schools. In addition to developing and sponsoring the exhibit, The MOSCOT Mobileyes Foundation has kicked off the initiative with a $26,000 donation to open four music programs in local public schools; this will fund teacher trainings, instrument donations, curricular resources, and scholarships to attend the Music Will Modern Band Summit. Both organizations hope to continue this initiative annually, building lifelong connections between students and music worldwide. 

This initiative stemmed from the belief that music brings people together across all divides, a sentiment shared by friends, philanthropists, and musicians, Perry Margouleff, Steve Rosenthal, and Harvey Moscot. With MOSCOT’s historical roots in the Lower East Side, the Punk & Beyond: Legends of the Lower East Side gallery aims to pay tribute to a few impactful musical pioneers and establishments of the neighborhood while raising funds to inspire the next generation of musicians.

I am dedicated to continuing to find ways to give back to the city that has been so good to MOSCOT” shares Dr. Harvey Moscot.

MOSCOT Music ontstond in 2004 in de Orchard Street Shop van het bedrijf, toen 4th Generation, Harvey Moscot, zijn gitaar pakte en begon te jammen op een regenachtige zaterdag. Gasten stonden in de rij, personeelsleden en 5th Generation, Zack Moscot, sloten zich aan en sindsdien heeft MOSCOT een muziekelement toegevoegd aan zijn repertoire, door fans wereldwijd in contact te brengen met opkomende en gevestigde muzikale artiesten.

"We zijn zo trots om deel uit te maken van een tentoonstelling die het rijke muzikale erfgoed van deze historische buurt herdenkt en de levendige diversiteit viert."

Ontworpen door Daniel Kershaw, Exhibition Design Manager bij het Metropolitan Museum of Art, zal de meeslepende ervaring artefacten van Johnny Thunders, Lou Reed, Norah Jones, David Peel en meer bevatten. De tentoonstelling is gratis en toegankelijk voor het publiek en loopt van 22 ^april tot ⁹ juli, van woensdag tot zondag van 12pm tot 8pm in de Mark Miller Gallery (92 Orchard Street, NY, NY). De galerieruimte zal gedurende de looptijd verschillende intieme evenementen organiseren die worden georganiseerd door donateurs, waaronder optredens, panels en gesprekken met legendes uit Lower East Side.

De MOSCOT Mobileyes Foundation is een non-profitorganisatie die zich inzet voor kansarme New Yorkers en in 2008 werd opgericht door Dr. Harvey Moscot. Het Mobileyes-initiatief is verschoven van het uitsluitend leveren van medische oogzorg naar het ondersteunen van de behoeften van de gemeenschap als geheel.

Music Will is het grootste non-profit muziekprogramma voor scholen in de Verenigde Staten. In de afgelopen 20 jaar hebben ze lerarenopleidingen, lesprogramma's en instrumenten verzorgd voor meer dan 6000 scholen in alle 50 staten, wat tot nu toe meer dan 1,2 miljoen studenten heeft beïnvloed. De missie van de organisatie is geworteld in sociaal rechtvaardigheidswerk en streeft ernaar om muziekonderwijs op scholen te herstellen en te transformeren, aangezien districten steeds minder geld krijgen voor muziek- en kunstprogramma's. Het unieke lesprogramma van Music Will, dat bestaat uit de genres rock, hiphop, pop, R&B, Latin, country en jazz, is net zo divers als de studenten die ze bedienen. Music Will is van plan om in de komende vijf jaar nog een miljoen studenten te bereiken.
