When purchasing a new pair of sunglasses there are several factors to consider relating to fit and style, including sunglass shape, size, and lens material. While now less common due to weight and expense, there are various advantages of real glass lenses to keep in mind.
Glass lenses are a classic choice and provide optimal visual clarity, glare reduction, and little to no distortion. Mineral glass lenses are also scratch resistant and provide long-lasting color as the tint is embedded in the crystal and does not change or oxidize over time like a plastic tint can. Regular plastic eyeglass lenses block most UV light, but mineral glass lenses provide an added boost of UV protection.
MOSCOT Original Sunglasses feature authentic mineral glass lenses from the good ol’ days retaining the authenticity of the original frame styles that precisely duplicate the true old-school colors first fabricated by the Company in the 1940s.
MOSCOT offers six original glass lens colors: G15, Calibar Green, Cosmitan Brown, Grey, Blue, and Yellow in many MOSCOT Original frames.
Fun fact: Glass lenses were the first lenses used… Good ole Ben Franklin fused two pieces of glass together to make the first bifocals!
“Back in the day, my Dad (Joel, 3G) and his father (Sol, 2G) used to only grind glass prescription lenses, which needed to be treated to make them shatterproof. One of my earliest memories working with my family was placing these glass lenses into the case hardening machine, which was a special oven that heated the glass lenses to extreme temperatures. After all these years, we’re still doing it the old-school way!” – Dr. Harvey Moscot, 4th Generation
