When Hyman arrived on Ellis Island 119 years ago, he heard, "What is your name, where are you from?" shouted from a distance. Although the ground was not paved in gold as promised, we wanted to honor his ambitious thinking by launching a Special Edition of the treasured LEMTOSH.

Named for our strapping and unconventional uncle, Uncle Zulu Pushkin (yes, that's his real name), who was a runner for a famed New York bookie back in the day. The ZULU recreates the ubiquitous American Optical Pilot frame made famous in the 1940s. This square-shaped frame is strong and sturdy so it can really take a beating urban or otherwise, if you catch our drift.

Hyman's son-in-law Hal (aka, his "aidim") was a nice enough cat, but his work ethic was, well...non-existent. So after a brief stint behind the Orchard Street counter, Hyman encouraged Hal to pursue "other opportunities." Hyman felt guilty. Hal was never happier. We named this frame to honor all The AIDIMs out there, and the father-in-laws who've sent them on their way.

A Ratner’s regular, 2nd Generation Sol would often pop over for a bite at his favorite eatery. Thanks to Genevieve—the colorful hostess in colorful glasses—Sol always left the diner with a belly full of blintzes (and a few satisfied GREPS!) ready to take on the afternoon rush. Ezra ran the busiest fruit stand in the Essex Street Market, but that didn't stop his daily visits to GREAT Grandpa Sol to trade crisp Granny Smith apples for the pair of eyeglasses he coveted. It took quite a few bushels for Ezra to pay for these classic, WWII era spectacles, but eventually he took care of his debt, while simultaneously proving that an apple a day does not, in all cases, keep the doctor away.
