Back in the days of yore, when the Lower East Side was more rough and tumble than cocktails and tapas, MOSCOT's resident optometrist, Dr. Richard Fleisig, aka "Dr. Zetz," did double duty: provided excellent eye care to patients, and punched (hence his moniker) bad guys tasks that were (almost always) mutually exclusive. Like Dr. Zetz, this strong, sturdy frame is a knockout.

We named The BREN for our beloved, longtime employee, Ida Wax, who worked for 40 years at MOSCOT from the 1960s through 1990s. A "Bren" incarnate, she was a firecracker of a woman, charismatic and full of energy, and an inspiration to everyone who knew and loved her.

Zesty, zealous…sometimes a bit zany, this one’s named for Abe Zindik, a local L.E.S. resident and professor at Brooklyn College. Made from thick block acetate with detailed beveling on the front and temples, this style is perfect for the class clown and book worm alike. While known as the black sheep of the family, Sol’s brother, Sam, was loved just the same. A bit of a rebel with a strong sense of self, when it came to matters of the family business, he fit in like a square peg to a round hole. Mirroring the rounded edges of this square-shaped frame, we made The MESHUG should you need a reminder to stand out.

Picture this: it’s 1972 on Orchard Street and Benny “The Bluff” Rosenberg, with his makeshift three card monte table, is packin’ up his rig faster than you could say chutzpah. Funky, fearless, and just a little offbeat, The TRAIF captures the spirit of a street where everyone hustled and had a story to tell – even if it wasn’t strictly kosher.

Like The LEMTOSH, this "brother" from another mother, The BRUDE, shares its same round-square shape, and easy good looks, but is made from a metal acetate combination, and is rivet-free. First seen on brudes, dudes, and sisters in the 1960s, The BRUDE is subtly striking, and features detailed engraving on its bridge and temples.

Sol (2nd Generation) used to sneak out for lunch at Ratners, where its manager Abe meticulously reviewed each customer’s receipt. A nod to the famed eatery’s specialty and Abe’s specs, The KUGEL combines tasteful metal edges and delightful acetate curves, bringing a whole new flavor to the Lower East Side.

We named this frame The GROYSE because it's big. Big on style, big on character, and just plain big. Big, big, big. With its soft round shape, raw gold color, retro, flat beveled edges, and a bridge that sits high. The GROYSE is 1970s all the way. Can you dig?

Antonio was a MOSCOT porter around Sol’s time in the Shop. As reliable as he was tough (read: very), he was surprisingly refined when it came to repairing the delicate equipment behind the counter. Much like the casual yet detailed structure of this chunky frame, this good-looking GOOLAH won’t disappoint.

Fresh off the boat from Cuba, Luis Mendoza made his mark on Orchard Street every holiday season in the 50s. Dressed in his colorful guayaberas and wrap-around frames as loud as his laugh, Luis was impossible to miss – and even harder to resist. Whether it was the ladies or the fellas, everyone was down to SHTUP!

A "balebus" is someone who is resolute, indomitable, and steadfast - qualities Great Grandpa Hyman so admired, he "invented" the "word" balebus to "identify" a "balebuster" whenever he saw one. Nearly 100 years later, we Moscots still love us a balebus, but think this frame may be a more appropriate way to "identify" one.

One of them, Alex Bonilla, wore this iconic aviator style. Equal parts observant and unassuming, The MINYAN blends in while seeing everything – proof that there’s strength in numbers and style in staying sharp.
